I have a lot of respect for Paul and Nell Newman and the ethics of their company, so we know their pet food is going to be decent enough. Organic Adult is better than most but it has to be said there’s room for improvement. Some of their other varieties are better like the Advanced formula. Let’s have a look…
The top ingredient is chicken which is good, but once dehydrated will lose most of it’s weight and knock it further down the list. What this means is the food will be barley and oats more than meat which isn’t ideal for a dog. Don’t get me wrong as barley and oats are both quality ingredients, as are peas, but most of the protein will be from chicken meal all the way down in 5th. The protein content is only 21% which is testament to the lack of real meat and I’d like to see more. They need to bump up chicken meal on the ingredients list for this food to reach 4 stars.
Soybean meal is high on the list and provides little nutrition as the protein is hard to digest – it’s filler. Interestingly they state on their website there is no evidence it causes allergies, but they don’t say it has nutritional benefits either! They also use sorghum which is a starchy cheap grain with little benefit to dogs.
This food earns a respectable 3 but for the price there are other alternatives.
