Lots of meat
Decent grains

The word Viand means “delicacy”, or “a choice and tasty dish”. Let’s take a look at the Viand Regular Bite Lamb and Chicken formula and see if it really is a tasty dish…

For the main ingredients we find a combination of Lamb Meal and Chicken Meal. This is exactly what we should see in a food aimed at a carnivorous animal. Meat meals contain significantly less water than regular meat, and significantly more protein. As ingredients are listed in order of weight prior to cooking (inclusive of moisture), it’s far better to see a meat meal than regular meat in the top spot.

This is a grain recipe, and the choice of grains are excellent. The introduction of grain free foods has led people to believe grains are bad, which isn’t necessarily the case. The real issue with grains is carbohydrates, and feeding a dog excess carbohydrates is harsh on digestion. In this food the main grain is Oat Groats, which are lower in carbs than most other grains, and also a good source of fiber and added protein. We also find Whole Brown Rice, another good selection and far more nutritious than the inferior white rice.

It’s nice to see the inclusion of flax seed, a great source of omega 3 and fiber, and some of the added vitamins and minerals such as iron and manganese are high quality inclusions.

I see this as being a very good food, and I’d certainly recommend it!

It’s also worth noting, if you have a smaller dog with smaller gnashers, then have a look at the Small Bite recipe.
