Artemis Fresh Mix

Artemis Fresh Mix

Artemis Fresh Mix is the base range from the company being a grain-based kibble. They also offer OsoPure as a grain free option, and Pro Power as a high-protein option for active or working dogs.

For this review I’ll focus on the Medium/Large Breed Adult formula.  There’s a number of other recipes in the range, catering for smaller dogs (smaller kibble, higher protein), senior, and weight management (with very low fat at 6%). The rating of this review applies to all recipes across the range.

Let’s take a look…

The top three ingredients in the food are all decent meat ingredients – chickenchicken meal, and turkey – backed up by a selection of top quality grains – barleybrown rice, and oatmeal. I really can’t fault that for a grain-based kibble, and it’s nice to see the meat ingredients being prevalent over the grains. Top marks.

The dry matter protein of 23% is average, but we can rest assured most of the protein is coming from easily digestible meat (and not the likes of corn and corn gluten meal we often find in cheaper foods).

This certainly isn’t a simple food as far as ingredients go. It looks to me like they’ve packed in a whole shopping list. In addition to the chicken and turkey we find duck, salmon, and fish meal included, and also chicken fat as a necessary source of nutrients, omega 6, and energy. As well as the grains listed above we find millet, and also potato as another source of carbs. There’s a range of vitamins and minerals, and some really nice inclusions like green tea extract as an antioxidant, flaxseed for skin and coat, eggskelp, spinach, and a range of fruits and veggies. Chicory root is a source of soluble dietary fibre and a prebiotic to aid digestion. Yep, this food is packed with decent ingredients.

It’s one of the best grain-based kibbles on the market so I’ll give it 5 stars for being a solid daily diet. If you have an active dog then I’d sway towards Pro Power as an alternative, but otherwise I find this food hard to fault.

What’s good about this food….

Superb range of ingredients, well thought out.

….and what’s not so good.

There’s a lot of grain in the food, but that said they’re decent grains.
