Regal Cat Bites
There are three recipes in this range – Cat Bites, Lean Cat Bites, and Kitten Bites. I’ll focus on the standard recipe Cat Bites for this review.
The main ingredient is a meat meal which is a great start. A meat in “meal” form is weighed after moisture is removed, and will contain approximately 300% more protein than a regular meat ingredient. I prefer to see a specifically named meat such as “chicken” or “turkey”, as poultry meal could mean anything. It’s probably a combination of chicken and turkey, but could contain other poultry as well.
Brown rice is a solid choice of grain, being more digestible than cheaper grains like wheat and sorghum and even white rice. Unfortunately we find sorghum as the next ingredient, which is starchy with little nutritional value. Then in 5th we find oats, giving us 3 grains in the top 5 ingredients. Cats, being carnivores, don’t need grains at all.
Chicken fat is good to see in the 4th spot, a necessary ingredient that provides our cats with energy and essential nutrients.
We find some other nice inclusions in this food, such as whole ground flaxseed as an excellent source of much needed omega 3s, along with menhanden fish oil as another top choice for omegas. This is an ingredient common in top quality foods. We also have herring meal and crab meal to really bulk up the food with fishy goodness.
This is a solid food with little to complain about. I’d prefer to see more specific meat ingredients and less grains (especially less sorghum), but that’s about it.
