This food is centered (and named) around the fact that they use avocados in their food. This is pretty unique, as I’ve never seen it before. I won’t deny that it’s a good ingredient, and although it may be a little gimmicky (they could easily use other ingredients that are more commonly found in foods to get the same nutrients), it’s a solid inclusion.
This food used to contain a lot of corn and wheat, and it’s really nice to see this is no longer the case. Instead we have whole brown rice which is a decent grain, and also white rice (not as good as brown).
You have chicken meal as the first ingredient which is great, and herring meal later on. There are no by-products or other disgusting animal parts found in this food. So as far as the protein selections go, they’re doing well.
The change in grains from corn to rice tells us the protein in the food will come mostly from the chicken and not from corn which is harder to digest. They’re definitely on the right track with this, and the food has definitely improved.
The avocado provides a good source of vitamins and fatty acids, and also provide benefit for skin and coat. It’s a good inclusion in this food. If you’re in a typical big pet store that has this, Iams and Nutro, I’d give this a shot. If you are in a specialty pet store with better stuff, I probably wouldn’t.
I’ve given the food 3 stars, but it’s a high 3 stars. After some consideration I may change this to a 4 star food.
