Senior dogs are often overlooked, which is extremely sad when you consider those in a shelter losing out to younger pups.
There are many reasons to adopt a senior dog, and this list of 10 is in no way conclusive. There is no reason why you won’t love a senior dog any less than a frantic puppy.
So here goes, 10 reasons to adopt a senior dog!
1. House trained
Many older dogs are housetrained. You won’t have to go through the difficult stage(s) of teaching a puppy house manners.

2. Won’t chew
Older dogs are not teething puppies, and won’t chew your shoes and furniture while growing up. Anyone who’s raised a puppy will know how destructive they can be, yet many new puppy owners are completely unaware what they’re embarking upon.

3. Focused
Older dogs have the ability to focus better because they’ve mellowed. Therefore, they learn quickly.
4. Knows “No”
Older dogs have learned what “no” means. If they hadn’t learned it, they wouldn’t have gotten to be “older” dogs.
Puppies on the other hand take many many months of frustration and repetition on your part before they understand the word “no”.
5. Settled
Older dogs settle in easily. They’ve learned what it takes to get along with others and become part of a pack.

Older dogs are good at giving love, once they get into their new, loving home. They are grateful for the second chance they’ve been given.

Puppies will gladly take up 100% of your time and more.

Older dogs are accustomed to human schedules and don’t often need nighttime feedings, comforting, or bathroom breaks.
